Peles Castle - The Castle Inaugurated by King Carol I of Romania

According to its form and function, Peles Castle is a palace but is constantly referred to as a castle. Similar to Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria, its architecture blends Neo-Renaissance and Gothic Revival styles.

In 1866, King Carol I of Romania (1839–1914), under whose reign the country gained independence, visited the future castle site and fell in love with the gorgeous mountains.
